Vacancy Details

For the CGEPT 01/2026 and 02/2026 batches taken together, the Indian Coast Guard notified a total of 630 vacancies spread across Navik (General Duty), Navik (Domestic Branch) and Yantrik (in the Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics streams). Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Navik (General Duty): Passed Class 12th (10+2) with Mathematics and Physics from a board recognised by the Council of Boards for School Education (COBSE).
  • Navik (Domestic Branch): Passed Class 10th from a COBSE-recognised board.
  • Yantrik: Passed Class 10th from a COBSE-recognised board, plus a Diploma in Electrical / Mechanical / Electronics / Telecommunication (Radio/Power) Engineering approved by AICTE, as specified in the notification.

Age Limit

The recruitment is open to Indian male candidates, generally in the age band of about 18 to 22 years. For the CGEPT 01/2026 & 02/2026 batch, candidates were required to be born between 01 August 2004 and 01 August 2008 (both dates inclusive). Age relaxation is provided as per Government of India rules – an upper age relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST candidates and 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates, for posts reserved for them. Candidates are advised to verify the exact date-of-birth window for any fresh batch on the official notification, as it changes with each cycle.

Application Fee

  • General / OBC / EWS: Rs. 300/-
  • SC / ST: Exempted (No fee)

The fee is payable online through net banking, Visa/Master/Maestro/RuPay Credit or Debit Card, or UPI. SC/ST candidates are exempted from payment of the application fee.

Salary / Pay Scale

Selected candidates are enrolled with attractive pay and allowances as per the 7th Pay Commission:

  • Navik (GD & DB): Basic pay of Rs. 21,700/- (Pay Level-3), plus Dearness Allowance and other applicable allowances.
  • Yantrik: Basic pay of Rs. 29,200/- (Pay Level-5), plus a Yantrik Pay of Rs. 6,200/-, along with Dearness Allowance and other allowances.

In addition to the basic pay, personnel are entitled to allowances based on the nature of duty and place of posting, along with rations, medical cover, insurance and other service benefits.

Selection Process

Selection through the CGEPT is conducted in multiple stages. A candidate must clear each stage to progress to the next:

  1. Stage I – Written Examination (Computer-Based Test): Objective test covering subjects such as Mathematics, Physics/Science, English, Reasoning and General Awareness, with trade-specific sections for Yantrik.
  2. Stage II – Physical Fitness Test (PFT) & Document Verification: The PFT is qualifying in nature (for example, a 1.6 km run, squat-ups and push-ups within prescribed limits), conducted along with verification of original documents.
  3. Stage III – Recruitment Medical Examination: Conducted as per Coast Guard medical standards.
  4. Final Merit List: Prepared primarily on the basis of Stage-I (CBT) performance, subject to qualifying all subsequent stages.
