The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has come out with its much-awaited notification for the recruitment of Officers in Grade ‘B’ (Direct Recruit) for the Panel Year 2026, covering the General, DEPR and DSIM cadres. This is one of the most sought-after banking jobs in the country, and the official notification was released on 29 April 2026 for a total of 60 vacancies. As on today, the application window has closed and the Phase I examination has already been conducted, with the recruitment now moving into its later stages.

Vacancy Details

RBI has notified a total of 60 vacancies for the Grade ‘B’ (DR) post for the 2026 panel year. As per the official notification, the General cadre carries the largest share with 40 posts, while the DEPR (Department of Economic and Policy Research) and DSIM (Department of Statistics and Information Management) cadres have 10 posts each. Within the General (DR) cadre, the posts are further distributed across categories – roughly 16 for Unreserved, 9 for OBC, 7 for SC, 4 for ST and 4 for EWS candidates. Candidates are advised to refer to the detailed notification for the exact category-wise break-up, as RBI may revise the number of vacancies.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

For the Grade ‘B’ (DR) General cadre, a candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks (or an equivalent grade) in aggregate, or a Master’s degree with at least 55% marks. The qualifying percentage is relaxed to 50% (graduation) for SC, ST and PwBD candidates. The DEPR and DSIM cadres require relevant Master’s degrees in Economics/Finance and Statistics/Mathematics respectively, with the prescribed marks mentioned in the official notification.

Age Limit

A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years as on the cut-off date specified in the notification (1 September 2026). Age relaxation is available as per Government rules – 3 years for OBC, 5 years for SC/ST, and up to 10 years (or more in certain cases) for PwBD candidates. The upper age limit is further relaxed for candidates holding M.Phil. (up to 32 years) and Ph.D. (up to 34 years) qualifications, as well as for experienced and ex-servicemen candidates as per the notification.

Application Fee

  • General / OBC / EWS: Rs. 850/- plus 18% GST (application fee cum intimation charges)
  • SC / ST / PwBD: Rs. 100/- plus 18% GST (intimation charges only)
  • RBI Staff: Nil

The fee is to be paid online through debit card, credit card, internet banking, UPI or other modes available on the portal. Kindly note that the application fee, once paid, is non-refundable.

Salary / Pay Scale

Selected candidates will be placed in the pay scale of Rs. 78,450 – 4050(9) – 114900 – EB – 4050(2) – 123000 – 4650(4) – 141600 (16 years). The starting basic pay is Rs. 78,450/- per month. Including Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Grade Allowance, Special Allowance and other admissible perquisites, the approximate gross monthly emoluments work out to around Rs. 1.5 lakh, making this a highly attractive opportunity for aspirants. Actual emoluments may vary depending on posting location and applicable allowances.

Selection Process

  1. Phase I (Preliminary Examination): An online objective-type test that is qualifying in nature.
  2. Phase II (Main Examination): Conducted for candidates who clear Phase I, comprising objective and descriptive papers.
  3. Interview: Shortlisted candidates from Phase II are called for the interview round.

The final merit list is prepared on the basis of the aggregate marks secured in Phase II and the Interview, as detailed in the official notification.
