Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
Going by the pattern followed in the recent NORCET cycles, a candidate should hold one of the following:
- B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing or B.Sc. Nursing from a recognised university or institution, OR
- B.Sc. (Post-Certificate) / Post-Basic B.Sc. Nursing, OR
- Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) from a recognised institution.
- The candidate must also be registered as a Nurse and Midwife (RN and RM) with the Indian Nursing Council or any State Nursing Council.
As the wording can vary between cycles, the exact qualification, registration and any experience condition should be cross-checked from the official notification before applying.
Age Limit
The age limit is generally 18 to 30 years, calculated as on the last date of application, as per the official notification. Reserved-category candidates get age relaxation as per Government of India rules, which usually works out as follows:
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years
- SC / ST: 5 years
- PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities): up to 10 years, as applicable, over and above the category relaxation
Application Fee
Based on the fee structure seen in the recent NORCET rounds, the application fee is expected to be as below. The exact, category-wise fee will be confirmed in the official notification:
- General / OBC: Rs. 3,000/-
- SC / ST / EWS: Rs. 2,400/-
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): Exempted from the fee
The fee is paid online through net banking, debit/credit card or UPI. Kindly confirm the fee for your category on the official website before paying, as the amounts can change between cycles.
Salary / Pay Scale
The Nursing Officer post comes under Pay Level-7 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix (corresponding to the earlier Pay Band-2 of Rs. 9,300-34,800 with Grade Pay of Rs. 4,600). Along with the basic pay, candidates draw allowances such as Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance and Transport Allowance, which makes the in-hand salary fairly attractive. The actual take-home amount depends on the city of posting, and the final pay details will be as per the official notification.
Selection Process
Selection under NORCET is done through a Computer Based Test (CBT), followed by document verification. The usual stages are:
- Prelims (Stage-I): An online CBT of an objective, qualifying nature, used to shortlist candidates for the next stage.
- Mains (Stage-II): An online, merit-based CBT; the final merit list is generally prepared from this stage.
- Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates are called for verification of their original certificates and eligibility documents.
The complete exam pattern and marking scheme will be spelt out in the official NORCET-11 notification. Do note that NORCET cycles have usually carried negative marking, so accuracy matters more than guesswork.
