NVS Recruitment 2026: PGT, TGT & Non-Teaching Vacancy, Apply Online, Eligibility & Dates

The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) is once again among the most sought-after employers for teaching and non-teaching aspirants across the country. As of today, region-wise contractual recruitment for the 2026-27 academic session is being rolled out by various NVS regional offices, and a fresh all-India regular recruitment cycle for PGT, TGT and non-teaching posts is expected in the coming months. Interested aspirants are advised to start their preparation now so that they do not miss the application window once it opens.

Kindly note that NVS runs two parallel streams — a purely contractual (samvida) drive selected through academic merit and personal interaction, and a permanent recruitment conducted through a Computer Based Test (CBT). This article covers both, with clearly labelled Expected details wherever the official notification is still awaited.

Vacancy Details

For the current 2026-27 contractual drive, notifications have been issued by several regions such as Lucknow, Chandigarh, Patna, Hyderabad and Shillong, covering PGT (various subjects), TGT (various subjects and regional languages), Female Staff Nurse, Counsellor and Hostel Superintendent. Since these are contractual and vacancy figures are dynamic, the exact number keeps changing region to region.

For the next all-India regular recruitment, the total vacancies will be confirmed only through the official notification. As per the previous cycle, NVS had advertised over 1,500 teaching posts along with hundreds of non-teaching vacancies (LDC/Junior Secretariat Assistant, Staff Nurse, Audit Assistant, Stenographer, MTS, Lab Attendant and more). These figures are shared here as an indicative reference and should not be treated as final.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • PGT: Master’s Degree in the concerned subject with at least 50% marks, along with B.Ed., as per the official notification.
  • TGT: Bachelor’s Degree in the concerned subject with 50% marks plus B.Ed., and a valid CTET Paper-II qualification.
  • Female Staff Nurse: B.Sc. Nursing or equivalent with registration as RN & RM and relevant hospital experience.
  • Counsellor: Master’s Degree in Psychology / Applied Psychology with a relevant diploma and experience.
  • Hostel Superintendent: Graduation (Master’s/B.Ed. preferred) with residential school experience.
  • Non-Teaching posts: Qualifications range from 10th/12th pass to graduation depending on the post, as specified in the notification.

Age Limit

For contractual teaching posts, the upper age limit is generally up to 50 years, with Counsellors between 28-50 years and Hostel Superintendents between 35-62 years, reckoned as per the cut-off date in the advertisement. Ex-NVS and superannuated government teachers may be considered up to around 65 years. For regular recruitment, the upper age limit typically ranges up to 35-40 years depending on the post. Age relaxation is applicable — 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, and further relaxation for PwBD and Ex-Servicemen as per Government of India norms.

Application Fee

For the contractual (walk-in/email registration) recruitment, no application fee is charged. For the regular recruitment through CBT, an application fee is applicable — approximately Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,800 for General/OBC/EWS candidates, while SC/ST/PwBD candidates and women are generally exempted, as per the official notification. The fee is to be paid online through net banking, debit/credit card or UPI.

Salary / Pay Scale

For contractual posts, a fixed monthly remuneration is paid — approximately Rs 42,250 for PGTs, Rs 40,625 for TGTs, Rs 44,900 for Female Staff Nurses, and around Rs 35,750 for Counsellors and Hostel Superintendents. For regular posts, remuneration follows the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix (for example, Level-6/Level-7 for teaching posts and Level-6 for posts like Audit Assistant, Rs 35,400-1,12,400), along with admissible allowances such as DA, HRA and free residential accommodation in most vidyalayas.

Selection Process

The selection method differs by stream. For contractual posts, there is no written exam — NVS follows a point-based merit system, giving 75% weightage to academic qualifications and 25% to the personal interview/interaction. For regular teaching posts (Principal, PGT, TGT, Miscellaneous Teachers), selection is based on 80% weightage to the CBT and 20% to the interview. For most non-teaching posts, selection is done purely on the basis of CBT performance, sometimes followed by a skill test.

Exam Pattern & Syllabus Highlights

As per the previous cycle, the NVS CBT is an objective-type online examination. The typical pattern comprises around 120 to 180 questions carrying equal marks, to be completed in 120-180 minutes, generally without negative marking (candidates should confirm this in the notification). The paper broadly covers:

  • General Awareness & Current Affairs
  • Reasoning & Numerical Ability / Quantitative Aptitude
  • Language (English & Hindi)
  • Teaching Aptitude / Pedagogy (for teaching posts)
  • Subject-Specific Knowledge (concerned subject for PGT/TGT; domain knowledge for non-teaching)
