The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), under the Ministry of Railways, have released the Centralised Employment Notification (CEN) No. 09/2025 for recruitment to 22,195 Level 1 (Group D) posts across Indian Railways. The notification was issued on 30 January 2026 and the online application window remained open from 31 January 2026 to 9 March 2026 (after an extension). Kindly note that the application process has now closed, and lakhs of aspirants are currently awaiting the Computer Based Test (CBT) schedule, which is expected to be announced shortly.

Vacancy Details

A total of 22,195 Level 1 vacancies have been notified under CEN 09/2025, distributed across various Railway zones and production units. The largest share is for the Track Maintainer Grade-IV post with around 9,350 vacancies, followed by Pointsman-B with approximately 4,843 vacancies. Other Level 1 posts include Assistant (Signal & Telecom) with around 1,257 vacancies and Assistant Carriage & Wagon with about 962 vacancies, along with assorted helper-type roles. Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have passed Class 10th (Matriculation) from a recognised board, OR hold an ITI certificate from an institution recognised by NCVT/SCVT, OR possess a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT. Possessing the required qualification as on the closing date of application is essential.

Age Limit

The age limit is 18 to 33 years, calculated as on 1 January 2026, as per the notification. Upper age relaxation is applicable to reserved categories – 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), and 10 to 15 years for PwBD candidates (over and above the limit), along with relaxation for Ex-Servicemen and other eligible categories as per Government of India norms. Candidates are advised to verify their exact eligibility and relaxation entitlement in the official notification.

Application Fee

  • General / OBC / others: Rs 500/-, of which Rs 400/- is refunded (after deducting bank charges) on appearing in the CBT.
  • SC / ST / Ex-Servicemen / PwBD / Female / Transgender / Minorities / Economically Backward Class (EBC): Rs 250/-, which is fully refunded (after deducting bank charges) on appearing in the CBT.

The fee is payable online through net banking, debit/credit card or UPI. Candidates should retain their payment receipt for future reference.

Salary / Pay Scale

Selected candidates will be appointed at Pay Level 1 of the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) matrix, with a starting basic pay of Rs 18,000 per month. In addition, candidates are entitled to Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance and other admissible benefits as per Railway rules, making it an attractive opportunity for 10th/ITI pass aspirants seeking a stable government job.

Selection Process

The selection for Level 1 posts is based on the following stages, conducted in sequence:

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT) – single stage objective examination.
  2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) – qualifying in nature.
  3. Document Verification (DV).
  4. Medical Examination as per the prescribed medical standards for the post.

Candidates must qualify each stage to proceed further. Final selection is based on merit in the CBT, subject to clearing the PET, DV and medical examination.
