Vacancy Details

A total of 25,487 vacancies were notified for this recruitment. As per the official notification, these are split into approximately 23,467 posts for male candidates and 2,020 posts for female candidates. Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Interested aspirants must have passed Matriculation (Class 10th) from a recognised Board or University. Candidates are advised to ensure they hold the required certificate as on the cut-off date specified in the official notification.

Age Limit

The age limit for this post is 18 to 23 years, calculated as on the cut-off date mentioned in the notification (1 January 2026 for this cycle). Age relaxation is provided to candidates of reserved categories as per Government of India rules. Generally, SC/ST candidates receive a relaxation of 5 years, OBC candidates 3 years, and Ex-Servicemen 3 years (after deduction of military service). PwD and other special categories may also be eligible for relaxation. Candidates should verify the exact relaxation applicable to them in the official notification.

Salary / Pay Scale

The post of Constable (GD) falls under Pay Level-3 of the 7th Central Pay Commission, with a pay scale ranging from approximately Rs. 21,700 to Rs. 69,100 per month. In addition to basic pay, selected candidates are entitled to allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance and other benefits as admissible. Selection Process

The selection of candidates is carried out through the following stages:

  1. Computer Based Examination (CBT) – the written objective test, which is the primary screening stage.
  2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST) – qualifying in nature; height, chest (for males) and a timed race are assessed.
  3. Detailed Medical Examination (DME) – to confirm physical and medical fitness.
  4. Document Verification – to verify all original certificates and eligibility.

For reference, the PET generally requires male candidates to complete a 5 km run within 24 minutes and female candidates a 1.6 km run within 8.5 minutes, though norms may vary for certain regions. The minimum height is typically 170 cm for males and 157 cm for females, with relaxations for reserved and region-specific candidates.
